First Baptist Church
Passaic, Passaic County

The
First Baptist church is a very large red brick meetinghouse. The
façade is nicely enlivened with a combination of pilasters
and a finely-detailed oversize arched entry, but that scarcely disguises
the fact that this is a large barn-like building. That is not intended
as a disparaging remark, for a high percentage of the state's earliest
houses of worship were essentially similar to barns. The church was
erected in 1891 on Gregory Avenue.
