Newfoundland Methodist
Episcopal Church
Newfoundland, Jefferson Township, Morris County

There
is not really much of a town at the place on the map called Newfoundland—it
is more of an area than a hamlet and it lies (just barely) in Morris
county, backed up to the border with Passaic County. This classic “schoolhouse” type
church served Methodists scattered over a wide area for many years
following its erection in 1888. The congregation was formed in 1819.
The only other congregation in the area is the Presbyterian one in
Oak
Ridge,
a
mile or so south
of
this
church.
The building, painted
barn red, is now used for a daycare center; the original congregation
erected a new church a bit north of this one.
