First Methodist Church
Hope, Warren County

This large frame building, erected in 1876, is typical of a number of
the substantial Methodist churches built in small towns in that era.
It has a seating capacity seemingly far greater than the region would
require, but many congregations outgrew these churches and built larger.
Notice that the main auditorium is raised to provide a full basement
for the Sunday School and other meetings these churches accommodated.
The congregation was organized in 1826, when the Moravians who settled
the town were still a presence.
