  early churches of New Jersey

     About this site
We've created a database and photographic inventory on more than three-fourths of the 18th & 19th century churches in the state and add to it more or less each month. We welcome and solicit all corrections, contributions and suggestions from our visitors.

Trinity Episcopal Church

Cranford, Union County
North Avenue & Forest Street
founded 1872, built 1875

TrinityA relatively recent renovation has restore the church to something close to its original condition. There had been a squarish tower with a crenellated battlement and a matching entry vestibule; the tower now is a close approximation to the original. The siding is board-and-batten—traditional for smaller Episcopal churches of the period. The bargeboards are from the Carpenter Gothic idiom and are nicely done.
