Allaire Episcopal Church
Allaire State Park, Monmouth County
The proprietor of the ironworks at what is now Allaire State Park built
this Episcopal church for his employees in 1832. It is remarkable for
the belfry and cupola at the rear, which was structurally necessary.
That is not an uncommon arrangement in much larger churches; see Old
Swedes, for example. The quarter-round windows in the pediment are
similar to those on other meetinghouses of the period.
